ORGANIC APPLE SAUCE

hezelah apple sauce hezelah apple sauceWhat makes apple sauce so special? For me, it is the fact that there is almost zero waste in the preparation process and that the house smells so wonderful like it’s almost inviting you to find a cozy place, take a blanket and a cup of tea, and sit and relax.

The apple sauce can be used as an egg replacement in cakes and pancakes, as an addition to your porridge, as a thickener for your hot chocolate or golden milk, as a sauce for your veggies or any other way according to your liking. I don’t add any sweeteners, but I do try to buy sweet apples that make a healthy and delicious sauce.

INGREDIENTS (for app. 400 ml):

  • 3 big or 4 small organic apples
  • 1,5 liter of water
  • 1 cm fresh ginger root
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Use organic apples as apples are on “Dirty Dozen” list as one of the fresh produce with high pesticide contamination.
  2. Wash the apples, peel the skin and enjoy it as a snack (great source of fiber, minerals, and vitamins) or cook the apples together with the skin.
  3. In the cooking pan, put the apples cut into eight parts, add water, ginger, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick.
  4. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 15 minutes, or until the apples become very soft.
  5. Once done, turn off the fire and let it cool down for 15 minutes.
  6. Strain and blend the apples into the sauce and use the water in which apples were cooking as a tea. So cozy & delicious!
  7. Keep it refrigerated in the airtight container, and use within 3 or 4 days.

PIRE OD JABUKA
Što je to tako posebno kod pirea od jabuka? Za mene je to sam proces pripreme u kojem gotovo da i nemate što za baciti te opijajući miris koji se proširi po cijelom stanu te kao da vas poziva da nađete ugodno mjesto, uzmete deku i šalicu čaja, sjednete i opustite se.

Pire od jabuka možete koristiti kao zamjenu za jaja u kolačima i palačinkama, kao dodatak zobenoj kaši, kao zgušnjivač za vruću čokoladu ili zlatno mlijeko, kao umak za povrće, itd. Ja ne dodajem nikakva sladila, ali nastojim kupiti slatke jabuke tako da i pire uvijek bude pomalo sladak.

SASTOJCI (za oko 400 ml):

  • 3 velike ili 4 male organski uzgojene jabuke
  • 1 l vode
  • 1 cm svježeg korijena đumbira
  • 3 mahune kardamona
  • 1 štapić cimeta

UPUTE:

  1. Koristite organske jabuke jer su jabuke na “Dirty Dozen” listi kao jedan od svježih proizvoda s visokom kontaminacijom pesticida.
  2. Operite i ogulite jabuke i iskoristite koru kao grickalicu (odličan izvor vlakana, minerala i vitamina) ili kuhajte jabuke zajedno s korom.
  3. U zdjelu u kojoj ćete kuhati stavite jabuke narezane na 8 dijelova, dodajte vodu, đumbir, mahune kardamona i štapić cimeta.
  4. Poklopite i zakuhajte, zatim smanjite vatru i kuhajte oko 15 minuta, ili dok jabuke potpuno ne omekšaju.
  5. Kad je gotovo, ugasite vatru i ostavite da se hladi 15 minuta, a zatim procijedite i smiksajte jabuke u pire, a vodu u kojoj su jabuke kuhale poslužite kao čaj. Čaj bude odličan, baš za opuštanje i dekicu!
  6. Pire od jabuka čuvajte u hladnjaku, u staklenoj vakum posudi i iskoristite u roku od 3 ili 4 dana.
